Megawatt Recharged: A Fresh Look for the 1000kW R35

This isn’t just any R35. It’s the original Megawatt GTR. A 1000kW monster that’s already earned its stripes. Under the hood, it boasts Precision Racing’s PR16 package, delivering over 1500 horsepower at the wheels. With a PR16 long engine upgrade, billet Precision turbos, MoTeC ECU package, and a full GR6 transmission build, this setup is capable of sub-8-second quarter-mile passes at over 180mph, all while remaining street-drivable. After years of turning heads with pure power, it was time to match that punch with a sharper, more refined exterior. Enter Concept Garage, and a little something called the Top Secret body kit.

The transformation kicked off with one of our favourite moments, unboxing day. Straight from Japan, the full Top Secret R35 GTR kit landed at the shop. There’s nothing quite like tearing open crates packed with precision. Each part pulled out felt like unwrapping treasure Raw carbon fibre glinting under workshop lights, panel lines as sharp as a katana.

Once the kit was on the bench, the whole crew gathered around like it was car-part Christmas. The mix of carbon and fibreglass, the quality of the materials, the fit and finish… you could instantly tell this was next-level gear. It’s no wonder Top Secret has the rep it does. This stuff is art in automotive form.

We spent a moment capturing some close-ups of the details. The carbon weave, the intricate shaping, the sheer craftsmanship. Trust us, if you’re into materials, the textures and finish on these parts are next-level. We knew we had something special on our hands.

Then it was time to get into the real work. Alex and Jay took point, test-fitting the massive front and rear bumper bars, along with the wide quarter panels. There’s something so satisfying about seeing these parts mocked up on the car, like puzzle pieces falling into place.

With the fitment underway, Alex turned his attention to the rear wing. Carefully measuring, marking, and drilling the boot lid, he mounted up the Top Secret spoiler setup with the patience of a watchmaker. Meanwhile, Jay tackled the mammoth front bumper and lower diffuser section, piecing it together and gently easing it into position on the car.

The rear diffuser was next on the to-do list. Alex laid it out, prepped the mounting points, and began attaching it to the rear bar. At the same time, Danny joined the mix, carefully shaping and fitting the front bumper spats, trimming them for a flush, seamless finish.

With the cage prepped and all bodywork dialled in, the crew came together for a final test-fit. Every panel, every bracket, every bolt was double-checked. Happy with the fitment, Alex, Jay, and Rob locked in the kit with the full hardware. No shortcuts, no flex tape.

We then spent another moment to capture some more images and videos with the kit mock-fitted.

As the cage settled in, the dash followed, but this time, with a small but slick upgrade. We designed, 3D printed an embedded a mount for the MoTeC 8-button keypad, integrated cleanly into the dash trim. It’s those little touches that elevate function into design, and they’re what this car is all about.

One more mock-up to confirm everything sat exactly how we wanted, then it was Benny’s time to shine. The car moved into the body prep section, where the legendary Concept Garage panel OCD kicked in. Surface perfection and dialled-in gaps are the name of the game here — if it’s not dead-straight, it’s not leaving this room.

Once the body and kit were cleaned up, sanded, and gap-checked to perfection, the car rolled into the booth for its first big moment: primer. Panels, kit, and shell — all locked in with a clean coat, setting the foundation for the final colour.

With the body primed and ready, we made the call to our mates at Prestige Haulage. The R35 was loaded up and sent to Bass at 2SUS, where it’ll be sprayed in the 2017 NISMO Super Silver to match its revival.

After a fresh coat of paint at 2SUS Custom Resprays, we dropped by to catch Bass in his element. The had GTR had just left the the booth, glowing under the lights in its new 2017 NISMO Super Silver. The finish was glassy, and full of depth!

Then it was time to bring her home. Back at Concept Garage, the boys wasted no time getting into reassembly mode. This was the final round — every bolt, clip, and panel installed with full attention to detail. After all the test fits and mock-ups, this was the one that counted.

Jay got stuck straight into the interior, carefully reinstalling every component. The freshly painted roll cage slid in like it was born there, now a bold centrepiece that ties the whole cabin together. Smooth satin finish, perfectly prepped, and looking right at home in the silver shell.

Custom trimmed Tillet Racing seats back in. Lightweight and classy!

Meanwhile, Benny and Alex were out back fitting up the final exterior pieces. Rear wing, front bar, carbon front lip — and of course, all the lighting. Every part clicked back into place with the kind of precision that only comes from obsessive prep work. This wasn’t just a reassembly, it was a ceremony.

Next, Alex went around the car polishing each carbon piece by hand. From the diffuser to the wing, he brought out the full depth and clarity of the weave, giving each part that final bit of love before the big reveal. When the lights hit those carbon panels at GTR Festival tomorrow, they’re going to pop.

That moment the dancing shoes go on.

And just like that, we’re here. GTR Festival is tomorrow, and both our builds are locked, loaded, and looking wild. It’s been an absolute mission pulling off not one, but two full project reveals for the big day, and we couldn’t be prouder of the team. From the precision prep to the late-night sanding sessions, every bit of effort has led to this moment. Now it’s a waiting game as the tow trucks arrive at 11pm sharp, ready to haul both beasts out to Sydney Dragway. See you all trackside!

A few late photos post-GTR Festival. We just couldn’t resist sharing these late additions. Massive thanks again to everyone who played a part, especially our Concept Garage crew who went above and beyond in the final stretch. The last two months were a blur of late nights, long days, and all-out hustle.

Stay tuned as we’ve got loads of video content on the way, including full build breakdowns for both GTRs we brought to the festival this year. You’re going to want to see how it all came together.
